Folk duo First Aid Kit is setting off on their “Palomino” tour, kicking off in Nashville, TN tonight. This tour comes after the release of the duo’s fifth studio album of the same name in November of 2022. The tour will be coming to Chicago at The Salt Shed on July 22.
Born to artist parents in Sweden, sisters Klara and Johanna Soderberg were interested in singing from a young age. The two began singing together when they were in their early teens, performing in their home as well as as street singers. Klara found the name first aid kit when flipping through an English dictionary.
First Aid Kit broke through when the sisters started sharing their songs on MySpace and were quickly signed to Rabid Records, and later to Wichita Records. Their first EP, Drunken Trees, was released in 2008, before Johanna had graduated high school and before Klara had even started. Since then, the group has recorded five studio albums, the most well-known being 2012’s The Lion’s Roar. This album won multiple Swedish Grammi awards and debuted at number one in Sweden.
The Soderberg’s make mainly folk and indie folk music. The pair was inspired by country and folk stars like Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, and Emmylou Harris (who they later wrote a hit single about). Their latest album, Palomino, was met with widespread critical acclaim. “As we get older, the music is more about having fun and being positive, like a palomino riding through the desert,” Klara says of the album.
Don’t miss fresh folk music from the Soderberg sisters at The Salt Shed on July 22. Original tickets are sold out, but are available for resale here.
