Grammy award winning artist Alicia Keys is setting off on her latest tour this summer. The “Keys To The Summer” Tour will be stopping in Chicago on July 18 at the United Center later this month.
From Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan, Keys demonstrated an interest in music from an early age. After acting in theater productions at her school and listening to jazz music with her mother, the artist began learning piano at age six. Keys wrote her first song at age 12, and felt she was finally able to express her emotions through music. At just 20 years old, Keys put out her debut album, Songs in A Minor, with the newly founded J Records. The album was met with wild praise from critics, who lauded it’s soul and classical roots with a certain “cool girl” touch.
Since her beginnings, Keys has put out nine studio albums and headlined seven tours. She has also starred in a slew of movies, including Smokin Aces and The Nanny Diaries, and has served as a judge and vocal coach on NBC’s The Voice.
Throughout her career, Keys has seamlessly blended R&B, hip hop, and soul genres in her writing and artistry. She cites artists like Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, and Carole King as her influences, as well as classical jazz artists like Ella Fitzgerald who she listened to as a child. Keys is at her best when she utilizes her incredible range mixed with her unmatched piano skills.
Her current tour, “Keys To The Summer,” was announced on April 18 and kicked off on June 25 in Fort Lauderdale, FL. In her Instagram announcement, Keys joyfully stated, “seeing y’all sing these songs, seeing the love you’ve got to give, makes me want to give some love back.” The tour will be Keys’ first 360 degree production experience.
