Aly and AJ at Des Plaines Theatre on July 28

Early 2000s fan favorites Aly and AJ are wrapping up their most recent tour following their fifth studio album, With Love From. They will be hitting the Des Plaines Theatre in Des Plaines, IL on June 28.

The pair of sisters started making music together when Aly was 15 and AJ was 13. They quickly found success with Hollywood Records, where they recorded their debut album, Into the Rush. During this era, the duo worked closely with Disney Channel and Walt Disney Records, opening for The Cheetah Girls and Miley Cyrus, featuring on Disney Channel Original Movie soundtracks, and even starring in the 2006 DCOM Cow Belles. Aly and AJ’s biggest hit, “Potential Breakup Song” was the lead single off of their second album, Insomniatic. The song was named one of Times’ top 10 songs of 2007, and is still blasted from throwback playlists to this day.

After a hiatus and a departure from Hollywood Records, Aly and AJ returned to music with their 2017 EP, Ten Years, commemorating the 10 years they had gone without releasing music. Since then, they have released two albums and have re-recorded their most popular songs, a la Taylor Swift.

Aly and AJ’s newest album, With Love From, delves even deeper into their new sound. The 2023 album mixes folk, country, and indie pop influences. The sisters have expressed their readiness to explore different genres and ideas they had when they were younger now that they are not boxed into pop. Critics agree that the duo refuses to be defined by their early music, and are continuing to grow in their career.
