Ethereal EDM

In their new studio album I’ve Seen A Way, Mandy, Indiana explores a realm of ethereal electronic dance music (EDM) which allows the listener to enjoy a wide variety of sounds and vocals throughout the tracks. Some of the songs lean heavier into the EDM style while some stick to the more ethereal theme. Despite this, all of those songs work together to create a well rounded record. 

The album starts off with a very ethereal sounding track, “Love Theme,” which prepares the listener for what they might think to be a purely ethereal sounding album. The repetitive nature of the beats and the use of different elements hint at some EDM components featured throughout the song but it still sticks to a slower pace. 

The two songs that follow the intro, “Drag [Crashed]” and “Pinking Shears” both offer more of an EDM and dance vibe to the album. The songs feature French vocals that do not overpower the instrumentation in the forefront of the tracks. 

The album also features a bit of an interlude song “Mosaick” which is the odd man out in this album. It has a bit of a rock influence in the beginning and features lots of drums which keep the EDM theme going. 

“2 Stripe” and “Peach Fuzz” are the two most danceable tracks on the album and really appeal to those looking for an EDM album. Though there are some ethereal undertones to the song, they are overshadowed by the bass and other electronic components of the track. The lingering vocals in the back of “Peach Fuzz” add a certain eerie component to the song and also serve as a way to keep the listener engaged. 

The closing song of the album, “Sensitivity Training” was the perfect way to sum up all of the themes the band put forward; combining the ethereal qualities with the danceability of EDM. The listener is able to get a sense of the whole album and see how all of those different sounds and moods throughout the record can work together as one to create an encapsulating song.
