Garbage and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds have recently kicked off their 2023 co-headlining tour, and are heading to Chicago on June 27. The North American tour comes right after the release of Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’ fourth album, Council Skies, and Garbage’s most recent album, No Gods No Masters.
After the rock band Oasis’s split in 2009, former frontman Noel Gallagher released his first solo album, titled Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. He released several more albums under this moniker with fairly consistent members of the band. These projects have been celebrated for their more open and honest lyrics, as well as their return to guitar pop.
Garage was founded around the same time as Oasis across the world in Madison, Wisconsin. Shirley Manson (vocals), Duke Erickson (keys), Stever Marker (guitar) and Butch Vig (drums) have been making music together since 1993 with seven studio albums and ten headlining tours under their belts. The group has been known to bend genres, with Marker quotes as saying that they wanted to “take pop music and make it as horrible sounding as we can.” Garbage is currently in the process of writing their eighth studio album.
The tour marks the first time that Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds and Garbage have joined forces, although Shirley Manson has mentioned how “obsessed” Garbage was with Oasis when they were both coming up. Both parties have expressed their excitement to be collaborating, as well as their anticipation of being back on the road. Their 90s alternative-pop sounds are sure to complement each other well on stage and off.
