Meshell Ndegeocello releases new single “Clear Water” along with a serene studio-shot live performance video. The song featured Ndegeocello’s band, with production from Jeff Parker on guitar and supporting vocals from Justin Hicks.
“Clear Water” is a soulful cry for self discovery and reflection, one lyric sticking out delivered by Ndegeocello spoken word style, “If you’re living in a glass house, don’t throw no stones.” The song’s chorus repeats the lines, “Just to make my way back” which truly is what drives the message and hopeful tone of the song.
The video’s calm studio atmosphere allows the audience to feel the same feeling of seeing the band play live right in one’s own room. Featuring the likes of Jeff Parker: Solo Guitar, Deantoni Parks: Drums, Julius Rodriguez: Clavinet, B3 Organ, Chris Bruce: Bass, Wah Guitar, Vocals, Josh Johnson: Saxophone, Vocals, Sanford Biggers: Vocals, Justin Hicks: Vocals, Jebin Bruni: Vocals, and Abe Rounds: Vocals and Percussion.
This latest single is in support of Ndegeocello’s upcoming debut album, The Omnichord Real Book, set to release June 16th. In a press release she explained, “This album is about the way we see old things in new ways. Everything moved so quickly when my parents died. Changed my view of everything and myself in the blink of an eye. As I sifted through the remains of their life together, I found my first Real Book, the one my father gave me. I took their records, the ones I grew up hearing, learning, remembering. My mother gifted me with her ache, I carry the melancholy that defined her experience and, in turn, my experience of this thing called life calls me to disappear into my imagination and to hear the music.”
