Album Review: Cattle Decapitation – Terrasite

Sizzling, intense and thrilling

Deathgrind band Cattle Decapitation have been raising havoc with their music since 1996 and earlier this month the group released their latest album Terrasite. On each track, vein-jolting guitar riffs and drum beats sizzle the air with intense sound while the strong vocal performance courtesy of Travis Ryan contributes to the insanity with high pitched yelling. Terrasite offers a glimpse of how talented Cattle Decapitation are as a band and makes for a great addition to their discography.

“We Eat Our Young” has Ryan singing his heart out, using his authoritative voice to grumble out the lyrics before switching to his shrieking voice. “We Eat Our Young” truly shows how versatile Ryan is as a vocalist.

Headbanger “The Insignificants” has thrilling guitar playing by Josh Elmore and Belisario Dimuzio. While listening, each guitar riff shakes the background with bone-chilling noise. All three guitarists create their own musical madness on the track with their excellent skills.

“And the World Will Go on Without You,” is an energetic composition which features fantastic drum playing by David McGraw. Throughout the whole song, McGraw’s skills as a drummer shine brightly due to how fast he can switch the pace with each solid drum beat.

“Just Another Body” ends the album on a high note. This track in particular shows how serious Cattle Decapitation are with their musical talent and creativity. On this piece, the guitar and drum playing evokes the spirit of deathgrind metal by dazzling the mind with surging riffs and beats while the vocal performances dominate the ears with high pitched screams. Cattle Decapitation creates their own insanity with “Just Another Body.”

Terrasite is a perfect example of how metal music can thrive in today’s music world. Cattle Decapitation’s passion for music is apparent throughout the album, leaving fans and critics alike wanting to listen again.
