Wolfgang Van Halen’s Band Mammoth WVH Releases “Like A Pastime” Ahead of Upcoming Album Mammoth II

With the recent announcement of Wolfgang Van Halen’s Mammoth WVH upcoming album, Mammoth II, the band recently released their second single, “Like a Pastime”. An upbeat rock tune, carrying the same spirit as their previously released single, “Another Celebration at the End of the World”.  Mammoth II will be the sophomore album to this newly crafted band, set to release August 8th under BMG.

When explaining the song’s conception, Wolfgang said, “It centers around a 4/4-time signature, but with a polyrhythm on top. I was teaching my fiancé what a polyrhythm is, and I stumbled upon this idea. The kick drums are accentuating it. It’s certainly one of my favorites and a completely different vibe than anything on the first album”. The song’s pulsating guitar rhythm eventually leads into a grand chorus explosion, leaving the listener soaring through the song’s addictive chord progressions.

Releasing a lyric video along with the single, despite the song’s high energy feel the lyrics carry a much darker tone. The chorus repeating the lyrics, “Hey/ Beat me up like a pastime/ Hey/ Bring me up to the downside/ Let me down tonight/ Say/What you feel on the inside/ Say/ What you want for the last time/ Let me down tonight”. The song detailing the story of being in an abusive relationship and eventually finding a way out. The song closes with the lyrics, “I can’t tell you how much it means to be free”.

Along with the forthcoming album, the band will be touring from May to November hitting stops throughout North America and Europe. The tour will begin May 19th in Paris at the  Stade de France and conclude November 10th in Detroit, MI at the Ford Field.
