Album Review: Talkdemonic – Various Seasides

Ambient, Soulful and Dreamy

Talkdemonic’s newly released album, Various Seasides, is a perfect blend of modern and retro electronic music. The music itself calls to mind images of the sea, just as the title of the album suggests. Each track on the album is light and upbeat, making it perfect to listen to at any time of the day. The album is emotional and intriguing without being overstimulating.

Each track features hints of 80s synths and retro keyboards, which gives it a slightly aged feel. There is a catchy beat that is constant throughout most of the album. The percussion gives the music more of a human quality that serves as a reminder to the audience that, though the music is electronic, it was created by human hands. The rhythm helps give the music structure, and sets each track apart from one an0ther so that they are easily distinguishable.

The album, however, lacks a sense 0f drive and excitement. There is neither a build-up to a climax nor a finale of any kind. At times the keyboard sounds like it is dominating the music and building to a finale, but then it fades back into the music, which gives it an almost-flat quality. Over time, the music sounds somewhat repetitive and blurs together.

Various Seasides is an ambient soundtrack that is very calming and delightfully simple. Though it lacks an exciting drive, it possesses a dreamy quality that keeps it interesting throughout the album. The lighthearted vibes of the music make it easy to relax to and cause the music to become addictive the longer it continues. With its hypnotic drum beats being the focal point of each track, the album takes on a soulful feeling which never gets tiring and gives life to the music itself. Various Seasides is a must for all electronic music fans.
