Album Review: Digital Negative – EP 2

A heavy dose of experimental music

In March, industrial group Digital Negative released EP 2. Fans and critics are in for a treat because the duo offers five tracks that are filled with brutal electric sounds capable of jolting the veins of attentive listeners. Digital Negative have their feet on the gas pedal with EP 2.

“Drop” is a true head banger that starts things off with wild sampling, evoking a sense of urgency and leaves listeners questioning what musical universe Digital Negative is from.

“The Floor” features guitar playing from Daniel Euphrat and each note fills the atmosphere with undeniable talent. Each electric riff brings an intense feeling of what can only be described as being stuck in the dark.

“March Onward” is a complex track that is a bit of challenge to digest upon first listening. Ultimately, however, it occurs to listeners that Digital Negative expresses themselves on a higher musical level. Their musical style is one of a kind, successfully fusing solid guitar riffs and drum beats with electronics to bring hard rock vibes to the experimental world.

“Industrial Scrapes” is a great and catchy tune that has a high pitched electronic beat that can be heard shaking the background with amazing noise. Despite how serious “Industrial Scrapes”  feels, the beats from the sampling brings an urge of wanting to dance along.

“Monochromatic ” closes the album out with a loud bang from Richard Johnson. On each of the previous tracks, Johnson’s vocals speak with honesty and truth, but on this piece in particular, his vocal performance captures how serious the theme is, singing with pure rage. The feelings Johnson express on this track may be relatable for those who are struggling with finding themselves within their own chaos.

Overall, Digital Negative’s new release offers a glimpse of how passionate they are in terms of their musical creativity and innovation. Long time listeners will undoubtedly enjoy how much they have grown as a group both musically and conceptually.
