Album Review: En Attendant Ana – Principia

Intriguing Instrumentation That Ignites Interest

The popular indie band En Attendant Ana recently released their third album, Principia. They are a Parisian band that uses indie, rock and pop to create a unique sound that combines danceable beats with intriguing guitar riffs. This album tells stories through intricate lyrics and powerful instrumentation, to create a unique sound and feel.

“Principia,” the title track, starts the album off with a distinguishable indie rock and pop sound. They use repetitive guitar licks layered throughout the track to create a unique sound. Over the instrumentation, they sing about their observations of the outside world. It is an intriguing and captivating song, as the instrumentation draws the listener into the song while the lyrics take the listener on a journey.

The third track, “Black Morning,” takes the listener on another journey. They use descriptive and emotion-filled lyrics as they explore the stages of a relationship. Behind these lyrics are upbeat percussion and layers of electric guitars playing catchy riffs. “Black Morning” is another track that allows the listener to get lost in the album.

“To The Crush”, the fourth track, begins with haunting guitar chords that pulse through the listener’s ears. The guitars fall out of the spotlight once the vocals begin. They sing about a relationship unfolding as they grow and learn. Once again, the track is an impressive combination of intricate lyricism and catchy guitar riffs that will keep the listener coming back.

“Wonder” is a laid-back track that grows as the song continues. It starts out with just guitars and vocals, and slowly, as the lyrics and story build, so does the sound. By the end of the track, there are layers of electronic instrumentation. They sing about an unfolding relationship and growth. This song is another interesting listen, as the lyrics and instrumentation follow the growing path set by one another.

The final track, “The Fears, The Urge,” is another intriguing track. It begins with eerie guitar chords and a driving bass line. As the track continues, it gets full and less haunting as trumpets and lighter guitars join in.

Overall, the album Principia by En Attendant Ana is a captivating collection of ten songs. They use indie-rock instrumentation and carefully crafted lyrics to explore emotions and tell stories.

Stephanie Pratt: I am a student at Hamilton College majoring in economics and minoring in Spanish and music. Music and writing are two of my passions. I listen to every genre, but my favorite is indie-pop. I have studied and learned to play many different genres of guitar, from classical and rock to pop and indie. I also play piano and have begun to write music. In my free time, I enjoy exploring new and upcoming artists, photography, and writing music. I have attended Berklee College of Music, where I learned more about the music industry, guitar theory, music production, and songwriting. I also love to attend live music events and am often at The House of Blues in Boston checking out my favorite bands.
