Album Review: JAWNY – It’s Never Fair, Always True

Upbeat, lovestruck vibes

JAWNY, an American singer, songwriter and producer, recently released an album titled It’s Never Fair, Always True. This album is a spunky collection of 13 upbeat tracks. He explored themes of love and heartbreak, through intriguing lyrics and stories. For most of the album, he keeps upbeat and easy-going vibes with fun, danceable guitar tracks and lyrics about the happiness of love.

“Strawberry chainsaw” starts the album with an uplifting and in-love vibe. He sings about being completely in love and infatuated with a woman and only wanting to be around her. The instrumentation is an upbeat and danceable addition to the loving lyrics. His vocals are accompanied by rhythmic and groovy electric guitars that give the track a fun indie-pop vibe.

The fourth track, “wide eyed,” continues the fun and uplifting indie vibes. He sings about being completely in love with someone. The song is a sweet promise that he will love the girl whom he is singing about forever. The upbeat and rhythmic guitars continue the positivity of indie-pop vibes and perfectly match the sentiment of the lyrics.

The next track, “adios,” takes on a more heartbroken and sad tone than the rest. He sings about having feelings for someone who does not want his love, and the heaviness that comes along with that. The instrumentation is similar to the previous tracks, despite the new heartbreaking lyrics on this one. The vibes are still a danceable indie-pop sound, but the lyrics are melancholy.

The track “true” retreats back to the infatuation-and-love messages of the first few tracks. He sings about not being himself without this person by his side and of all the love he feels for them. The instrumentation, once again, is an upbeat and danceable sound with guitars and percussion.

The final track, “selfish hate,” is a more introspective and heartbroken track. He sings about missing someone and being reminded of them throughout his day. On this track, his vocals are less upbeat, as his voice is filled with pain and longing for the person he misses. The instrumentation is also much more melancholic. It is stripped-down, and he is accompanied by mostly guitars, harmonies and occasional percussion.

Overall, JAWNY’s newest album, It’s Never Fair, Always True, is a heartfelt collection of upbeat and danceable indie-pop songs that is sure to put listeners in a good mood and keep them coming back.

Stephanie Pratt: I am a student at Hamilton College majoring in economics and minoring in Spanish and music. Music and writing are two of my passions. I listen to every genre, but my favorite is indie-pop. I have studied and learned to play many different genres of guitar, from classical and rock to pop and indie. I also play piano and have begun to write music. In my free time, I enjoy exploring new and upcoming artists, photography, and writing music. I have attended Berklee College of Music, where I learned more about the music industry, guitar theory, music production, and songwriting. I also love to attend live music events and am often at The House of Blues in Boston checking out my favorite bands.
