Album Review: RIZ LA VIE – Haven

Chill tracks with honest lyrics

RIZ LA VIE recently released his latest album, Haven. It is a fifteen-track collection of songs. He uses laid-back production and honest lyrics to pull in listeners and keep them coming back. He combines elements of R&B, hip-hop and indie music to create a unique sound that allows his lyricism and artistry to shine through.

The second track on the album, “Marcel,” is a chill and honest track. He sings about a relationship and his fear of losing someone. It is an honest and emotional track, where he admits to feeling helpless and alone, as if he is to lose this person. He is joined by Johan Lenox on this track. They blend to create a laid-back vibe, and are backed by harmonies and smooth synths that contribute to the chill vibe of the track.

The next track, “No Doubt,” is another laid-back track, and he sings about feeling resentment toward someone to whom he gave so much, but they leave him with doubt. It is an emotional track as he explains feelings of loneliness and betrayal. It is a sad but upbeat track, filled with resentment, and tells his story in a very honest tone.

The eleventh track, “Haven,” is another tranquil and vibey track with smooth acoustic guitars and captivating percussion. He sings about living in a haven and existing above the stress and criticism of others. This track is a positive and uplifting one, while still tracing back to honest and storytelling lyricism.

In the next track, “Nitelite,” he is joined by Casino Royal. They work with the R&B beats to create a rhythmic track to build off. The production pulls the listener in with electric guitars and electro production that is simultaneously uplifting and relaxing. They sing about wanting to be with someone, imagining their life together.

The final track, “Go Again,” was one of the singles and is one of the most popular on the album. It is very laid-back and takes on a somewhat melancholic tone. They sing about wanting to go back with someone to the places they used to, but feel as though everything has changed, except the ways that they feel. It is another honest yet sad track. He continues the chill vibes with low-key beats and captivating melodies carried by both guitars and his voice.

Stephanie Pratt: I am a student at Hamilton College majoring in economics and minoring in Spanish and music. Music and writing are two of my passions. I listen to every genre, but my favorite is indie-pop. I have studied and learned to play many different genres of guitar, from classical and rock to pop and indie. I also play piano and have begun to write music. In my free time, I enjoy exploring new and upcoming artists, photography, and writing music. I have attended Berklee College of Music, where I learned more about the music industry, guitar theory, music production, and songwriting. I also love to attend live music events and am often at The House of Blues in Boston checking out my favorite bands.
