Rebecca Black comes to Bottom Lounge!

12/5/23 – Chicago, Il – Bottom Lounge

The viral sensation Rebecca Black is coming to Bottom Lounge on May 12th! Black originally gained recognition for her 2011 song “Friday” which quickly gained lot of attention. Lindsey Parker of Yahoo Music calls the song “a mind-meltingly horrific song”. Kevin Rutherford of Billboard describes the production as “straight out of Auto-Tuned hell” and Black’s lyrics as “a hilariously bad rap”. At 14 years old, Rebecca Black was completely ripped apart by music critics.

The harsh criticism didn’t stop Black from making music. She continued to release singles throughout the years until 2021, when she released an EP entitled Rebecca Black Was Here. The six track project is an electronic pop dream. The production is clean and diverse, the lyrics are perfect for her pop aesthetic, and Black’s voice is mature and confident. Black redefined herself with this project, and she continues to redefine herself with the new music she creates.

Recently, Black has recently come out with her debut album Let Her Burn. The album navigates through various emotions and corners of pop music. The album incorporates garage music in songs like “Destroy Me”, while in “Crumbs” she gets influence from neurofunk music. Black’s lyrics are much more mature from her early music days. In songs like “Sick To My Stomach” she discusses the feelings of seeing an ex-girlfriend move on. With her debut album, Rebecca Black continues to expand as an artist while maintaining her roots in pop music.

Opening for Rebecca Black is mazie! Mazie is a pop singer that takes influence from psychedelic pop, funk, and electronic music. She recently released a studio album blotter baby. The album features fun indie punk songs like “girls just wanna have sex” while also channeling her classic psychedelic pop in “are you feeling it now”.
