Grammy Award-winning guitar virtuosos, Rodrigo y Gabriela, return with their second single, “Egoland”, from their upcoming landmark new album. “In Between Thoughts…A New World” will arrive everywhere via ATO Records on Friday, April 21.
The new album, the duo’s first since 2019’s Mettavolution, was entirely produced by Rodrigo and Gabriela, .and is marked by a new life perspective.
The sound of “Egoland” is a spiritual journey that flows through different genres and delivers emotion through stunning and unique guitar arrangements.
In an interview with Consequence, Rodrigo explains how the new musical venture began during the pandemic during his recovery from Covid-19.
“I found a video on nondualism that resonated with me, it felt like a switch [turned on]. I started to introduce this concept to Gab and she was skeptical at first. I didn’t explain myself because I couldn’t… I didn’t know how to explain it, but it was incredible and liberating, and I was sharing the authors I was listening to [like Rupert Spira, Francis Lucille, and John Wheeler]. She got into it, eventually.”
The album’s first single, “Electric Soul,” is a 6-minute-long exploration of the duo’s new spiritual beliefs. “It’s the first time we’ve ever written a song that’s not in a traditional form,” added Gabriela. “It doesn’t have a chorus, it doesn’t have a beginning, a middle, and an end. It was a very different experience for us, but a very freeing one.”
