9/5/23 – Chicago, IL – Riviera Theatre
The folk artist City and Colour is coming to The Riviera Theatre on May 9th! The Ontario artist, Dallas Green, who goes by City and Colour, started the project in 2005. Before that he was the co-founder of post-hardcore band Alexisonfire. Since starting the project, Green has released six albums under the guise of City and Colour. According to their store, Green is soon to release their next album on March 31st, entitled The Love Still Held Me Near.
Green has teased the album by releasing a few of the tracks from the upcoming album. According to axs.com, the upcoming album is the most sonically aggressive and stylistically expansive. “Underground” features a lot of crashing drums and organs that fill out the rest of the track. The album has a theme of loss and trying to figure how to manage it. Another single, “Meant to Be” leans into divine perspective and states that even though things might be tough, it is what is supposed to happen in the end. Green states that “‘I had gone through the most negative, terrible aspect of living, and it was the idea that the positive and the love could still keep me, us, and my friends together.’”
Opening for City and Colour is Courtney Marie Andrews! The country indie singer Courtney Marie Andrews is celebrating the release of her album Loose Future which came out in October of last year. The Phoenix singer is letting herself process the highs and lows of the pandemic in her recent album. Over acoustic guitars, Andrews uses captivating harmonies to tell her story of acceptance and love.
