The ambient electronic group M83 is coming to The Riviera Theatre on May 2nd! The group is led by French musician Anthony Gonzalez. M83 has created popular music such as “Midnight City” synth heavy track with wailing saxophones that is reminiscent of a late night drive on the expressway. According to axs.com, M83 is “sonically expansive yet tenderly intimate”. Through M83, Gonzalez has contributes to the soundtracks of “Oblivion” and “Divergent”. M83 also received a GRAMMY nomination for their album Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming.
M83 is celebrating the release of their recent project Fantasy. The group has released a sneak peak of the current project; a six track EP of some of the songs appearing on the album. “Oceans Niagara” is an 80s inspired synth heavy track similar to songs like “Midnight City”. According to their website, Gonzalez describes that he wanted “‘this record to be very impactful live’”. He also states that he is focusing on the “‘combination of guitars and synths’”. The recent work continues to establish M83 as “a towering sensory delight and marks its most personal album to date”. The album provides “an escape from the disconnected world we live in today”.
With an album that is intended to be transformative both in its recorded and live versions, the Fantasy tour should amplify what Gonzalez builds in the recorded version out March 17th.
