Placebo comes to The Salt Shed!

21/4/23 – Chicago, IL – Salt Shed

The grungy rock band Placebo comes to The Salt Shed on April 21st! The band consists of Brian Molko and Stefan Olsdal. The band first made an impact in the 90s, with their vulnerable lyrical content and grunge style they made a huge impact on music and how we view certain topics. The band is known for their openness about androgyny, drug use, and mental health. Their albums are detailed with a dark aesthetic of sex and glitchy images. Recently the band has released a 2022 single “Shout” along with eighth studio album Never Let Me Go

Placebo’s songs such as “Nancy Boy” showcase their openness to topics. “Nancy Boy” discusses a sexual craving that can only be associated with the same rush you get from drugs. It pokes at gender roles and androgyny in the lines; “and it all breaks down at the role reversal/got the muse in my head, she’s universal”. The line suggests that bending the typical male dominant and female submissive roles are important to this couples interaction.

Their dark and grungy aesthetic is as captivating as it is intoxicating. As Placebo sends you into a stumbling story of drugs and sex, it’s hard not to be addicted to the rush.

Opening for Placebo is Deap Vally! The rock duo Deap Vally consists of Lindsey Troy and Julie Edwards from Los Angeles. They mix together hard rock vocals with groovy beats and guitar chords. Their most recent release was “Supernatural” in 2022, a trippy pop rock song about owning who you are, in the case of Deap Vally: a “supernatural thing”.
