The Belgian-Egyptian singer Tamino is coming to Thalia Hall on April 26th! On his tour he celebrates his second album Sahar. The album has spanned two singles “The First Disciple” and “Fascination”. Today, Tamino has released a music video for “Sunflower” which features Belgian singer Angèle. Tamino was also featured in NPR’s Tiny Desk Sessions in 2019.
According to an interview with NileFM, born Tamino-Amir Moharma Fouad, is musician as well as singer, knowing how to play the guitar, piano, and the oud. He finds inspiration from the bands from the 90s like Nirvana, as well as his own history. According to ticketweb, he is the grandson of one of Egypt’s most beloved singers, Muharram Fouad. A lot of his music incorporates Eastern influences.
The alternative artist sings about love, pain, longing, and hope in his music. The dark fashion aesthetic that Tamino has is reflective of his dark music. In songs like “Fascination” talks about a lover that is so fascinated by life, Tamino doesn’t understand. As he tries to remain indifferent to their love, he can’t help but also feel the same fascination.
Much of Tamino’s songs ache with tragedy and the lessons that life has to offer him. In “Habibi” Tamino wails at a lover in his high falsetto. He wishes to love his partner in the safety of their privacy. However, Tamino must move on, his yearning is captive in the trickling piano and strumming guitars that accompany him.
Opening for Tamino is People Museum. The electronic pop band was formed in New Orleans by Claire Givens and Jeremy Phipps. They incorporate elements of hip hop, dream pop, and alternative sound to create a genre bending project.
