Evanescence is that goth group that made the song that’s all over YouTube and was the background music for the Daredevil movie starring Ben Affleck. It’s really popular YouTube/goth anthem staple. By now in the year 2023; because of how much that song Bring Me To Life has saturated the world wide web, it is such a meme or maybe more like a relic still popular of a time now passed. Evanescence Bring Me To Life is way up there with memorable and nostalgic YouTube/web anthems like Bodies by Drowning Pool, Blue Monday by Orgy, Sandstorm by Darude, and Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley.
All those songs really hold a special and embarrassing place in my heart. Except Orgy’s cover of Blue Monday. That song is still an amazing goth anthem to me! As I bet anyone can relate to if they were raised on YouTube in the 2000’s. So ya. That’s what an article by a millennial on Evanescence gets you. Non-stop talk about their number one smash hit one hit wonder and it’s unbreakable ties to the weebs and dweebs of the vast and seemingly infinite interwebs.
Man I remember as a young young kid back in maybe 2001, I first heard that song for the trailer of Daredevil and was oh so totally blown away by just how epic and dark and brooding that song felt. Now it has aged like just okay wine. It’s just ok. Not bad, not great. The guitar parts are still dope though.
