Impressive vocals and genre fusions

Uhl recently released their debut EP, Channels. It is an intriguing and captivating body of work that includes six different songs that compile to showcase her sound as an artist. She uses her powerful vocals and years spent training in opera to create a unique sound. She combines classical elements with pop to create catchy, beautiful and heartbreaking songs.

The first track, “Harold Drive,” is a gentle and melodic song. Her airy and high vocals are breathtaking and showcase her background as an opera singer. This song starts off the EP by showing her ability to combine different genres to create her own sound that fuses pop and classical vibes. Her vocals are captivating and full of emotion which draws the listener into her unique sound as the EP begins.

The next track, “Fruit,” is the lead single of the EP. In this song, she leans more into her pop roots with catchy melodies, hollow drums and electric guitars. Her vocals are impressive on this track as well but are less airy and more belting and loud. She sings about love and sounds confident and powerful.

The next track, “Haunted Tune,” is another popular one. She combines her classical and pop background on this one. She leads with her powerful vocals and unique voice with minimal accompaniment and then builds it up around the chorus. This song is the exact portrayal of her sound, where she mixes impressive musical elements with catchy and pop sounds. She is sure to keep listeners coming back with this track.

The fifth track, “Tommy,” is a melancholic track beginning with low vocals and dark piano. It transitions into a full band with guitars, drums and strings around the chorus. She tells a heartbreaking story of a boy that is suffering. Her melancholic and crying vocals add to the emotions that radiate from this track, and it is sure to break the listener’s heart.

The final and sixth song on the EP, “When Days Meet Ends,” is another rich vocal track. It starts out with eerie vocals that create a backdrop for the lead. She leans into her opera side as the song progresses, and behind her sits guitars, drums and a mix of intriguing sounds. The mix between opera and pop vocals makes this track a beautiful and unique song showcasing her artistry.

Uhl’s most recent release, Channels, is a powerful EP that showcases her sound and is a beautiful listen.

Stephanie Pratt: I am a student at Hamilton College majoring in economics and minoring in Spanish and music. Music and writing are two of my passions. I listen to every genre, but my favorite is indie-pop. I have studied and learned to play many different genres of guitar, from classical and rock to pop and indie. I also play piano and have begun to write music. In my free time, I enjoy exploring new and upcoming artists, photography, and writing music. I have attended Berklee College of Music, where I learned more about the music industry, guitar theory, music production, and songwriting. I also love to attend live music events and am often at The House of Blues in Boston checking out my favorite bands.
