Alternative pop singer Zolita comes to Chicago in February

23/2/23 – Chicago, IL – Subterranean

On February 23rd, Zolita will be performing at Subterranean. The queer alternative pop singer has released one studio album called Evil Angel. Since then she has released number singles including “Single in September” and “I F*cking Love You”. Over the course of a few months, Zolita has been teasing a bigger project with three new singles.

“20 Questions” is the first single Zolita teases. It starts off with a guitar strum that is reminiscent of 2000s pop punk. The song discusses how Zolita confronted a partner about them cheating on her. In the song, Zolita exposes their partner with a series of questions after originally playing oblivious. The single makes light of the hard situation by putting the lyrics to a fun pop punk beat.

“Ruin My Life” is a ambient pop song about putting all your energy into a partner. Zolita claims she “wouldn’t mind if you ruin my life” to her partner. The song layers echoing synths over a simple drum beat to reiterate Zolita’s lovestruck emotions.

The most recent single “Ashley” has a similar tone to its predecessor. Zolita sings over an acoustic guitar about crushing on a girl. Zolita’s emotions pull her apart, she claims that “if loving you kills me/yeah, I would die happy”.

The pop inspired love songs Zolita makes can resonate with anyone. In addition, Zolita’s unabashed queerness gives the LGBTQ+ community a person they can relate to.

Opening for Zolita is Lulu Simon! The pop star is known for her synth heavy and electronic songs. In her latest release Muscle Memory, Lulu Simon showcases her signature pop style in “All In” and “Driftwood”. In the closing tracks “Already The End” and “Being Alone is the Best” Simon shifts to an acoustic vibe. Lulu Simon’s growing diversity shows just how strong of an artist she is becoming.
