The soulful Lalah Hathaway has a three day residency at City Winery in Chicago! Her sultry lower-register voice captures listeners with tunes you’ll recognize and ones that will surprise you. The singer has covered artists like Tears For Fears, Anita Baker, and Luther Vandross while also writing her own material. Throughout her career, Hathaway has released seven studio albums of hypnotizing jazz and r&b songs.
Lalah Hathaway, the first release of the artist channels the r&b music of the 90s. Her second album, A Moment, channels this sound as well -pairing with the music of Whitney Houston and Toni Braxton from that time. Then nearly a decade later, the singer challenges herself to a different style. In her 2011 album, Where It All Begins, the singer incorporates pop beats and vocals to make a standout album of her discography. Songs like “Strong Woman” and “My Everything” have a heavy beat and catchy chorus that heighten their pop feel.
With the vast styles in her discography, Lalah Hathaway proves she is unstoppable. According to her website, has won five GRAMMY awards and has collaborated with artists like Snoop Dogg, Pharrell Williams, and Kendrick Lamar. Lalah Hathaway is the daughter of popular jazz singer Donny Hathaway, which she collaborated with on their duet to “This Christmas”. Lalah Hathaway is also expected to drop another original release in 2023.
Each day of her residency, Lalah will be performing twice. On February 16th and 17th doors open at 5 PM for the 7 PM show and 9:30 PM for the 10:30 PM show. On February 18th the doors will open at 4 PM for the 6 PM show and 8:30 PM for the 9:30 PM show.
