10/2/23 – Chicago, IL – Lincoln Hall-Schubas Tavern
On February 10th, Kaash Paige comes to Lincoln Hall-Schubas Tavern to give audiences a night of chill electronic r&b music. According to Wiki, Paige was born in Dallas, Texas as D’Kyla Paige Woolen. Her first name is backronym for Kill All Arrogance, Stop Hatred. The queer artist recently released her third album S2ML.
The electronic r&b artist, uses her third album to discuss love and mental health. The cinematic lead single “Girlfriend” talks about not wanting to be in a relationship with a girl. The song starts with the rhetorical line “So you wanna be my girlfriend”. Later, Paige laments that “I’m so used to goodbyes”. Paige doesn’t want to commit to someone she knows is going to leave her. This theme of protecting herself from others is common in the album. The single reeks with melodramatic yearning that vibrates throughout the rest of the album.
In one of the more uplifting songs from the album, “Doubted Me” talks about proving her haters wrong. She promises that she’ll “be the biggest thing they [have] ever seen.” In a way to guard herself from others, she promises to be the one they wish they never doubted.
The album takes a peak at Kaash Paige’s protective mind. S2ML never gets too emotional, but instead decribes her feelings in ambient chillwave music and honest lyrics.
Opening for Kaash Paige is Amari Noelle. The Gary, Indiana native Amari Noelle imbues electronic instruments and influences into her r&b style. She uses autotune and electronic production to give her music a chillwave vibe. In 2022, Noelle released two albums entitled Amari’ SZN 1 and Love Is My Religion. With this trajectory, Amari Noelle is showing herself as an unstoppable creative force.
