Motel Breakfast is an indie band from Chicago, composed of Conor Brennan, Drue Devente, Jimmy Drenovsky, Jesse Nasadowski and Mick O’Donnell. They are celebrating the recent release of single “So Long”, an ambient tune with grimey guitars, soft horns, and whimsical synths. The lyrics are as honest as the rest of the band’s material.
Motel Breakfast always tells a story with their songs. Their lyrics discuss topics of love, mental health, and nature. Their song “MB (as in Modern Baseball)”, starts off with “I am trying to wash the dirt off my hands but I’m not doing so well/I’ve been looking for direction but the signs keep pointing back to hell.” The mundane imagery within MB’s (as in Motel Breakfast) lyrics evoke a sense of nostalgia that is easy to resonate with.
Opening for Motel Breakfast at Golden Dagger is The Dead Bolts and Pinksqueeze. The Dead Bolts are an alternative band from the south side of Chicago. The band consists of Eddie Hennessy, John Rolence, Tyler Hancock, Matt Paske and James Ryan. Their music features bright guitars and catchy lyrics. They mix together country and alternative influences to form The Dead Bolts’ feel good sound.
Pinksqueeze is a queer indie rock band from Chicago. With their recent release “Stacy’s Mom – Sapphic Version”, Pinksqueeze takes a classic song and turns it queer. They’re fun, bubbly, and not afraid to challenge the way we look at the world. They are a perfect representation of Gen Z but are reminiscent of feminist punk bands from the 70s.
