Next Month: The White Buffalo at Chop Shop

13/2/23 – Chicago, IL – Chop Shop

Singer, songwriter, and guitarist The White Buffalo is coming to Chop Shop on Feb. 13th! The country folk artist also known as Jake Smith is in Chicago to promote his new album Year of the Dark Horse. The album traverses many genres throughout its 12 tracks. Smith notes that “With this album, I wanted something outside of what I’ve ever done. I wanted to open up. Do something dangerous” (TWB).

The first track “Not Today” brings listeners into a genre bent world. It starts off with an arpeggiated synth before it brings us into an alternative rock anthem.  Smith doesn’t stray too far in the second track “Winter Act 2”, a reflective song with electronic undertones. In “Kingdom for a Fool” showcases what he is known for; catchy melodramatic country music. But he immediately switches gears in “Love Will Never Come / Spring Song” where Smith incorporates aggressive blues vocals and chords.

The diversity in The White Buffalo’s recent album is what makes it so interesting. Hearing Smith tackle different emotions and genres shows how talented he is as a vocalist and composer. His live show will be an even better example of Smith’s talents.

Along with the release of Year of the Dark Horse, music videos for “Winter Act 2”, “Kingdom for a Fool”, “Not Today” and others on his YouTube. The White Buffalo has also contributed music for Sons of Anarchy, The Lone Ranger: Wanted, Safe Haven. Because of his contribution to Sons of Anarchy, The White Buffalo earned himself an EMMY nomination for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics in 2015 (Emmy).
