Next Week: Archers of Loaf at Bottom Lounge

13/1/22 – Chicago, IL – Bottom Lounge

90s indie rock band Archers of Loaf come to Bottom Lounge on January 13th! Originally, Archers of Loaf was an indie rock band from Chapel Hill, NC. Throughout the 90s the band released three albums; Icky Mettle, Vee Vee, All the Nations Airports and White Trash Heroes all throughout the 90s. After being on a hiatus, Archers of Loaf are back with their 2022 album Reason in Decline (Bandcamp).

Archers of Loaf is composed of singer and guitarist Eric Bachmann, guitarist Eric Johnson, bassist Matt Gentling, and drummer Mark Price. What distinguishes Archers from other bands is Bachmann’s harsh vocals over grimy guitars. Their sound was the epitome of shows like “Freaks and Geeks”. Their new album shows the Archers in a different sound.

Archers of Loaf aren’t making the music you can mosh to. Songs like “Screaming Undercover” and “Breaking Even” harken back to their old grimier sound. The album is sprinkled with intimate songs such as “Aimee” and “War Is Wide Open”. Even Bachmann’s vocals aren’t as harsh as previous albums. Reason in Decline focuses on the indie sound instead of the rougher grunge tones of earlier albums.

Fans of old Archers of Loaf tunes like “White Trash Heroes” and “Web In Front” will be happily surprised by their newer sound. Their mature sound will balance out their older discography to form a diverse set.

Opening for Archers of Loaf is Weird Nightmare! The band celebrates their debut self-titled album Weird Nightmare. Under Subpop, the METZ band lead singer and guitarist fronts Weird Nightmare with fun, catchy and indie rock tracks. Tickets are still available at bottomlounge.com
