Steel Panther The Fillmore 01/05

Hair Metal band finds refuge in San Francisco’s nostalgic community

Steel Panther is a band that seriously still plays like it’s still 1982. Why? That’s none of my business and therefore I dont care to know. Anyway, having a taste for metal myself I can always appreciate a good metal song for its instrumental achievements. I’m sure these guys are talented, after all they did do a cover of Don’t Stop Believin by Journey. I have known about Steel Panther since I was younger in middle school/high school watching pro skater Rob Dyrdek on his hit MTV show Fantasy Factory. Steel Panther did the theme song for the show and I don’t truly remember but I think they even made a cameo appearance on the show itself. That is probably the only song I can get down to for like five seconds honestly. What can I say? I’m not a hair metal guy and you aren’t either. The closest thing to hair metal I might listen to on any given day would possibly be Weird Al Yankovic. Anyway, if you really want to see these aging hipsters in action, they play at The Fillmore next month on a thursday. That’s it? A thursday? Hey I would be grateful for that spot instead of a packed weekend spot. I would be so stressed to play in front of a sold out weekend crowd. I’m no professional. But anyway The Fillmore is set in a really well-off area of San Francisco if you don’t know. So be ready to be tempted to spend, spend, spend! Maybe bring a light wallet of only cash to restrict your spending or a packed wallet of just plastic so you can go broke in just five easy minutes or less.
