RIP: 80s Pop Sensation Irene Cara Dead At 63

Pop singer and actress Irene Cara has passed away at the age of 63. CNN reported the passing of Cara inside her home in Florida on the afternoon of November 26^th, 2022. The cause of her death remains unknown. Her death was originally shared by her publicist Judith Moose in a tweet that said “Please share your thoughts and memories of Irene. I’ll be reading each and every one of them and know she’ll be smiling from Heaven. She adored her fans. She was a beautifully gifted soul whose legacy will live forever through her music and films.”

Cara began as an actress in her teens with her first role on “Electric Company” and then in movies “Sparkle” and “Aaron Loves Angela.” She shot to mainstream fame after she played the character Coco Hernandez in the popular 80s movie “Fame,” where she also recorded the movie’s theme song of the same name in addition to a ballad titled “Out Here On My Own.” She received two Grammy nominations and a Golden Globe nomination for these performances. Cara later co-wrote another hit theme for the movie “Flashdance” and earned an Oscar for Best Original Song and a Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Performance (Female). She continued her acting career in the movies “City Heat,” “Certain Fury,” and “D.C. Cab.” She also continued her lucrative singing career with her songs “Breakdance” and “Why Me.”
