Mind dazzling tunes with emotive delivery
Metal band Lamb of God has been causing havoc with their music for a long time and earlier last month the band released Omens. David Randall Blythe’s vocal performance remains strong on each track, the guitar playing by John Campbell, Mark Morton and Willie Adler blazes the atmosphere with righteous riffs and the drum playing by Art Cruz shakes the background with thunderous beats. Fans will not be disappointed with Omens because Lamb of God sticks to their metal roots.
Ear bleeding “Nevermore” gives an idea of how versatile Blythe is as a vocalist. He mixes his delivery with top notch shouting. While listening, the strong emotions of anger can be felt while Blythe talks out the lyrics before switching to shouting in pure rage. In some ways Blythe wants the audience to feel his pain so he uses his different vocal styles to express himself. “Nevermore” is the first tune off the album and it is a joy to hear how Blythe is still capable of stunning people with his voice.
Headbanging “To The Grave” has Cruz jolting listeners’ veins with epic drum beats that are being played on a basic and faster musical tempo. Also, the faster Cruz plays on the drums, the wilder things become. “To The Grave” is fun, with Cruz really showing off his skills as a drummer.
The title track “Omens” is a lovely composition that has blazing guitar playing by Morton and Adler. Right off the bat, surging guitar riffs can be heard welcoming listeners to the band’s dark world and in some ways, it does feel like both Morton and Adler are enjoying themselves while performing notes that contribute to the chaos on “Omens.”
Energizing “III Designs” is a catchy piece due to Campbell’s bass guitar playing. Throughout the whole thing, the vibrations from the deep riffs can be felt blaring through the speakers and another great aspect is how well Campbell can deliver on bass because each note matches the same musical wave the rest of the band is playing on. “III Designs” is brilliant thanks to Campbell’s skills as a guitarist.
Overall, God of Lamb has a home run on its hands with Omens, proving they still have what it takes to survive the music industry with their skills as a metal band.
