Bono at The Chicago Theatre on Nov. 8

Bono is on his way to Chicago. In early November, the U2 singer will visit The Chicago Theatre. He is set to perform on Nov. 8 as part of his upcoming Stories of Surrender tour.

The tour is set to be a mash-up of music and discussion based on his upcoming memoir titled Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story, which will be released on Nov. 1. Each chapter of the book is modeled after a U2 song, hence the title. With his Stories of Surrender tour, Bono plans to communicate anecdotes from his life and the book through both speech and song. Because the book is based around 40 individual U2 songs, Bono may feature some of these tunes in the performance.

Bono, also known as the lead vocalist of Irish rock band U2, started his music career in 1976 as the group’s frontman. In addition to his work with U2, Bono recorded tracks as a solo artist starting in 1985, appearing that year on Artists United Against Apartheid’s protest album Sun City with song “Silver and Gold.” This work marks part of his extensive journey as an activist. The memoir covers his passion for activism and philanthropy, themes that will likely appear on the tour, due to their importance in his life.

The singer has also appeared on movie soundtracks such as 1992 Honeymoon in Vegas with Elvis cover “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” The Million Dollar Hotel with Bono as the soundtrack’s executive producer in 2000 and most recently Citizen Penn in 2021 with “Eden (To Find Love).” Bono’s solo ventures also include tribute albums, singing “Hallelujah” on Tower of Song: The Songs of Leonard Cohen in 1995, “Save the Children” on Inner City Blues: The Music of Marvin Gaye that same year and “Dreaming with Tears In My Eyes” on The Songs of Jimmie Rodgers: A Tribute in 1997.
