AFI at Riviera Theatre on Nov. 15

California-born band A Fire Inside (AFI) play Chicago’s Riviera Theatre on Nov. 15. The punk rock group will tour with supporting act Drab Majesty for the Bodies Tour 2022.

AFI dropped their most recent album Bodies in 2021. The LP marks their 11th studio album, with seven singles preceding its release: “Twinkle Tongues / Escape from Los Angeles,” “Looking Tragic / Begging for Trouble,” “Dulcería / Far Too Near” and “Tied to a Tree.” The band produced the first six singles as three tracks. Though they finished recording in 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic delayed Bodies‘ release by a year.

AFI formed in 1991 and solidified their core members in 1998 with Davey Havok, Adam Carson, Hunter Burgan and Jade Puget. Their overall sound rejects definition as they push boundaries of the punk genre, appealing to different audiences with emo, hardcore and horror punk elements. AFI’s biggest mainstream success is single “Miss Murder” from 2006 album Decemberunderground, which topped charts internationally.

Bodies Tour 2022 will open with theatrical darkwave duo Drab Majesty. Andrew Clinco’s alter ego Deb Demure began as a solo act in 2011, adding keyboardist and vocalist Alex Nicolaou’s character Mona D in 2016. Studio album Modern Mirror marks their most recent LP, published in 2019. Just as AFI are known to experiment with genre, Drab Majesty’s music challenges preconceptions of electronic rock.
