Album Review: Nicolas Cage Fighter – The Bones That Grew from Pain

Mind-blowing metal

Australian band Nicolas Cage Fighter has been creating musical havoc since the ’90s, and last month the band released The Bones That Grew from Pain. On each track, Nick Moriarty’s vocal performance brings loud authority, the guitar playing from Justin Ellis and Tom Bardwell fills the atmosphere with vein-shaking riffs, and Matt Davenport lights things up with thunderous drum beats. Fans will appreciate the time and effort Nicolas Cage Fighter have put into their music.

Blazing “Shrine of Wire” is a tune that displays what kind of a band Nicolas Cage Fighter is, and the best part is the drum playing from Davenport. Right off the bat, the sound of deep percussive beats welcomes listeners to the band’s world, and each drum beat drives the momentum and pace of the band. “Shrine of Wire” shows how talented Davenport is as a drummer.

The ever-righteous “Static Abyss” has a face-smacking guitar played by Ellis. Heavy riffs introduce listeners to the band’s insane world. In some ways, Ellis is the storyteller of this tune by how each note captures the feeling of dealing with endless darkness. “Static Abyss” gives Ellis a chance to show people what he is capable of as a guitarist.

“Weeping Sores” is another headbanger that features epic guitar playing, but it is Bardwell who shines brightly in the darkness. What is enjoyable is how fast Bardwell can play while switching different musical tempos. The harder the tempo is, the faster and crazier Bardwell plays. Each riff is capable of causing people to headbang like crazy while listening to “Weeping Sores,” and there is no doubt Bardwell is a great guitarist.

Heart shaker “Heretic’s Vow” is simply a mind dazzler due to Moriarty’s vocal performance. Throughout the whole composition, Moriarty’s vocals remain strong, and authoritative while he screams the lyrics and the way he is shouting brings a strong feeling of anger and hatred. In “Heretic’s Vow” Moriarty shows people what he is capable of as a vocalist.

Nicolas Cage Fighter shows their worth on The Bones That Grew from Pain by performing stunning music and vocals.
