Sexual Assault Lawsuit Against Bob Dylan Dropped Following Alleged Destruction Of Evidence

The lawsuit filed by an anonymous woman in August of 2021, accusing the renowned musician Bob Dylan of alleged sexual assault, has now been officially dropped. According to Consequence of Sound, the decision to drop the suit came after accusations that Dylan’s accuser had allegedly destroyed evidence related to the case.

In the original lawsuit, the plaintiff, identified as J.C., accused Dylan of allegedly sexually abusing her as a minor in 1965, when Dylan was in his early-to-mid 20s, allegedly taking place at Dylan’s room at the Chelsea Hotel in Manhattan. These claims were quickly condemned by Dylan’s team as “false, malicious, reckless and defamatory.” Evidence was later presented by a biographer of Dylan’s arguing that the timeline presented by the accuser was not possible.

At a hearing on July 28, Consequence reports that the accuser asked the judge to dismiss the case “with prejudice,” meaning that the case could not be re-opened. Earlier in the case, the plaintiff had allegedly refused to turn over relevant material to the case, including texts and emails. She later dismissed both of her attorneys, Daniel W. Isaacs and Peter J. Gleason, without an apparent reason. Dylan’s attorneys have argued that the accuser allegedly destroyed important evidence to the case, which they believe showed that casted doubt on her claims against Dylan.
