Album Review: Thy Kingdom Will Burn – The Void and the Vengeance

The Void And The Vengeance marks the second full-length album by Thy Kingdom Will Burn

Thy Kingdom Will Burn is a death metal band based in Finland that formed in 2016. The group came together and released demos before signing with Italy-based Scarlet Records in 2020. After signing with Scarlet Records, the group released its first full-length, self-titled album Thy Kingdom Will Burn in 2021.

In May of 2022, Thy Kingdom Will Burn released their second full-length album The Void And The Vengeance. The Void And The Vengeance is an album of nine songs that are mostly death metal-inspired but have hints of melodic death metal as well.

With the release of The Void And The Vengeance, Thy Kingdom Will Burn has kept a consistent roster in its six-year history. The current lineup consists of Sami Kujala at vocals and guitars, Lauri Viren at drums, Janne Ruuskanen at bass and Esa Viren at guitars. The group has developed strong chemistry and it shows by the excellent musical flow presented in their work.

“Between Two Worlds” kicks off The Void And The Vengeance with a bang. The music is produced beautifully and balances the feeling of harmony and black metal. This balance of tones is heard throughout the album, and is a testament to the group’s ability to keep their songs refreshing.

“Disbelief” is paced much faster than “Between Two Worlds.” The incredible riffs of the guitar create a feeling of intensity that fits well with the themes of the song. The theme of disbelief and unknowingness is reflected in the fast-paced riffs in this track.

“Fortress Of Solitude” is another song that stands out for its music. This track balances its fast-paced riffs of the guitar and banging of its drums exceptionally well, resulting in an intense, dark song.

The Void And The Vengeance is an exceptional musical success for Thy Kingdom Will Burn’s growing resume. The vocals are strong and have a darker feeling, but also have a lighter charm reminiscent of melodic death metal. The instrumentals fit well with this, as they can change at any time to appropriately complement the song’s themes.

Thy Kingdom Will Burn is a new death metal band and they are already off to a great start. Their instrumentals take inspiration from multiple different genres but fit well with each other. If they can keep consistently producing excellent music with their new record label, Thy Kingdom Will Burn will be one of the best death metal groups for years to come.
