Young Jesus Surprise Release New EP Love For A New Century, Proceeds To Benefit Abortion Fund

Young Jesus released their new EP love for a new century on May 6, 2022. The EP has five songs and is Young Jesus’ first release since their album Welcome to Conceptual Beach. The Bandcamp-exclusive EP was created entirely by the founder of the band John Rossiter.

Brooklyn Vegan describes the EP: “It’s an intimate, crackling, lo-fi collection of songs – much rawer than their recent studio albums – and there’s a lot of great stuff on here.”

Their latest release is no usual suspect; it was available for purchase and streaming for one day only, with all proceeds going to the abortion rights group Midwest Access Coalition. The abortion fund “helps people traveling to, from, and within the Midwest access a safe, legal abortion with support in the following areas: travel coordination and costs, lodging, food, medicine, and emotional support.”

This act by Young Jesus swiftly followed the recent breaking news from the capitol, where Supreme Court Justice Alito’s draft opinion was leaked. The draft detailed that a majority of the justices are in favor of overturning Roe v. Wade, the ruling that made abortion legal nationwide in 1973.

Provided the leak is indicative of an incoming strike to the landmark case, abortion rights are likely to be struck down entirely in 13 states. Loss of abortion rights will impact “People of color and other marginalized, low-income people” most, say health and policy experts.

Access to abortion and healthcare generally in the U.S. is already a major problem; eliminating abortion access in entire states will be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of many.

Young Jesus’ donations to the Midwest Access Coalition are an important, upstanding move, as they will help people get access to safe abortions that they may not otherwise have been able to obtain.
