With themes of love
On March 4th, pop artist Selci released her debut album Fallen Woman 1. The album consists of 8 full-length tracks, as well as a radio edit of “My Love” (Track 6). Prior to the album’s release, “Lost In A Taboo” (Track 3) was released as a single.
The album mainly covers themes related to love: from feeling overwhelmed by love to feeling lonely. Selci explores all areas of romance, both the good and the bad. In “Talk About It,” she sings about knowing that there’s an issue in a relationship, but not being willing to talk about the problem, therefore being unable to resolve it. She sings about the unknown territory of not knowing the status of her relationship with someone and being unsure if they’re lovers or friends. In “Luscious Love,” she sings about craving affection, but not caring about who it’s from. While there is a general theme to this album, she explores different areas of it to give a fully-realized view of the concept of love.
“My Love” is a bit over 4 minutes long and is a gentle track about falling in love. The first and most prominent lyric is “My love, you take away the sins of the world.” This track would likely do well without a radio edit, as its original cut is not extensive in its content. The final track of Fallen Woman 1 goes on longer than radio tracks traditionally do. If it were to receive a radio edit, it would likely do better as a single rather than being tacked on at the end.
Selci’s vocals and lyricism are consistently phenomenal throughout Fallen Woman. Unfortunately, the album’s production is a bit lackluster, as its instrumentals feel off-kilter to Selci’s voice. Both the instrumentals and vocals sound well separately but do not mix on Fallen Woman 1 as they seemingly were supposed to. On the bright side, this is Selci’s first full-length project, and the sky is the limit for this emerging artist.
