Mindblowing music
Boston native band Vein.fm was formed in 2013, and they are known for their righteous, hardcore punk. Earlier this month, Vein.fm released their record This World Is Going To Ruin You. Each song is jam-packed with blazing vocals from Anthony DiDio, solid guitar playing from Jon Lhaubouet and Jeremy Martin, epic DJ and sampler playing by Benno Levine and wild drum playing by Matt Wood. Vein.fm gives their best on This World Is Going To Ruin You.
“Versus Wyoming” is only 55 seconds of craziness, but DiDio’s vocal performance is powerful due to his strong and authoritative voice which screams out the lyrics. While listening, the strong emotions of anger and hatred radiate through while DiDio sings with great power. “Versus Wyoming” demonstrates how dominant Vein.fm’s frontman can be as a vocalist.
The headbanger “Lights Out” has a vein-jolting bass guitar played by Lhaubouet. The bass guitar riffs seem to emerge from the background with a welcoming noise of nonstop craziness. What is enjoyable in this track is how each note contributes to the non-stop insanity that constantly lingers in the atmosphere. “Lights Out” is a killer track that has Lhaubouet playing his heart out on the bass guitar.
The ever-catchy “Magazine Beach” contains amazing drumming by Wood. Within the genre of hardcore punk, the drums play an important role as each drum beat creates a heavy vibe that keeps things together. On this track, Wood stays attuned to the structure that is being played, displaying how talented he is as a drummer by smoothly transitioning to a slower but louder tempo. “Magazine Beach” has well-played drum beats by Woods.
Screaming its way onto this record is “Hellnight,” which features Jeff Smith— lead singer of the screamo band Jermomes Dream. Smith’s grungy vocal style brings a sense of havoc while he grumbles out the lyrics in rage, blending well with DiDio. In some ways, Smith’s voice does bring a sense of urgency through his raspy vocals. “Hellnight” is a song that is filled with a dynamic vocal performance by Smith.
The ending track “Funeral Sounds” closes things with solid instrumentation. In the beginning, delicate piano playing fills the air with sadness while DiDio sings in sweet misery. Within this darkness, the electric guitar shakes things up with wild riffs that can be heard mixing in with the thunderous drum beats. “Funeral Sounds” is a crazy heartwrenching track that delivers a face-smacking dose of bold instrumentation.
Vein.fm created their own monster with This World Is Going To Ruin You. The band shows how hardcore punk can still thrive in the music world.
