Earthgang, the Hip Hip duo hailing from Atlanta, will be releasing their new album, Ghetto Gods, by January 2022. The duo released their first single “American Horror Story” earlier this week. The song has a low tempo but a small and subtle reggae feel. The song itself talks about being an African-American individual, specifically an African American male in the United States within the last year.
The song goes on to mention the troubles of the community, a lot that seems to fall into the background of the “positivity” and “good vibes only” era that the world has put themselves in focusing on what has come and what is coming, but what was lost or ignored not really being acknowledged. The song works its way from time of slavery all the way to today.
Lyrics include:
“Still a lil ratchet /still a lil boogie / still a lil dicey / Cousin in the navy / pops in the army / still I take my knee / waiting for somebody in the White House to save us s*** ain’t likely
The song is not necessarily a call to action, but a call to open your eyes and see the struggles that are happening, the changes, inequalities and stigmas that are occurring within the Black Community. With such a heavy track as their first single, it can leave a lot to imagination as to what the full album will be like. The world will know in January.
