Brief but energized
The Chicago punk rock band Rise Against have released Nowhere Sessions EP, which includes a total of six songs. Inspired by the success of the band’s summer tour, the EP includes live versions of songs from their latest album Nowhere Generation, their famed hit song “Savior,” and a couple of covers. The EP is relatively short as it runs less than 30 minutes, but Rise Against manages to incorporate tons of passion and surprises for fans.
Nowhere Sessions kicks off with “Talking To Ourselves,” a three-minute track packed with smashing drums. The fast-paced track is quick to grab the listener’s attention with catchy guitars and rhythmic percussions. The lyrics summarize the desperation one may feel when everything appears to be stuck in a spell: “I never wanted to disturb the peace/ But it feels like no one’s listening/ Are we talking to ourselves?” sings Tim McIlrath.
The EP continues with “Broken Dreams, Inc.,” another fast-paced song with hypnotic distorted guitars and insane percussions. Next, Rise Against cover Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Fortunate Son.” The two-minute track is jam-packed with passion and punk rock rhythm that will have much headbanging and singing along. Soon after follows another cover, this time Misfit’s “Hybrid Moments.” The fast-paced track is quick to mesmerize the audience with rhythmic drums and synchronized guitars.
The EP features the live version of the band’s rising hit song “Nowhere Generation.” The stripped-down version offers a more intimate performance for fans to enjoy. The EP ends with Rise Against’s live version of their 2008 hit song “Savior.” The track includes more of a punk rock spirit with quick guitar solos and yelling vocals that create a desire of wanting to see the band perform live.
Nowhere Sessions EP offers fans a new perspective of Rise Against’s music through more intimate and live renditions. Rise Against has created a six-song collection in celebration of the success of their summer tour and latest album Nowhere Generation, but they have also shared valuable renditions of songs fanatics will forever cherish. The only downside of this EP is the short length of the album that leaves people craving more.
