While COVID-19 inevitably led to canceled performances due to the possibility of audiences spreading the virus to each other, there was also the threat of band members spreading the virus to one another. Unfortunately, that happened during the recording of 4.
According to Consequence, Slash (the Guns N’ Roses lead guitarist), Myles Kennedy and two members of the Conspirators have tested positive for COVID-19 following their recording of the upcoming album, which is set to release on Feb. 11 via Gibson Guitars’ new record label.
The group took precautions to avoid the virus, though evidently to no avail. They took a tour bus to the studio in Nashville to avoid traveling commercially, and Slash told Germany’s Radio Regenbogen that he had recently been vaccinated. After recording the entire record, the musicians called each other and learned that almost all of them tested positive — but they still needed percussion and background vocals.
“So we mixed what we had, which was a lot,” Slash said. “And then we recorded the background vocals in the guest house of the house that we were all quarantined in. And then those guys got better. I tested positive finally. And so I had to quarantine… And so I came out, and then we did the percussion and mixed [the rest of] the record and drove home.”
Earlier this year, Kennedy released The Ides of March, an album that highlights the artist’s talents that are sure to be apparent on 4. In 2018, he released his first single with Slash and the Conspirators, “Driving Rain.”
