In March of this year, rock artist Mark Lanegan was infected with COVID-19. The former Screaming Trees frontman had just relocated to Ireland, and faced serious symptoms due to the virus. Now, the musician is detailing his experience with the disease in an upcoming book, Devil in a Coma. According to Consequence, Lanegan went “completely deaf” and was “slipping in and out of a coma.”
“Slipping in and out of a coma, Lanegan’s mind and body were left oscillating between life and death, unable to walk or function for several months,” reads the press release. “As his situation becomes more intolerable over the course of that bleakest of springs he is assaulted by nightmares, visions and regrets about a life lived on the edge of chaos and disorder.”
This terrifying memoir will be out on Dec. 14 via White Rabbit. The book’s publicist reports that Lanegan’s health is still not completely back to normal, but he has gotten his hearing back. And fortunately, this means the former Queens of the Stone age member can continue making music. While he frequently embarks on solo projects, his most recent work is the self-titled debut album with Joe Cardamone of The Icarus Line, Dark Mark vs. Skeleton Joe. The group released the album on Oct. 15 and music video on Nov. 1 for one of its tracks, “Living Dead.” The Halloween-era video was aptly creepy and haunting — perhaps a reflection of Lanegan’s fears throughout this year.
