There is no doubt that Nick Oliveri has kept busy with his numerous musical projects. Yet he has not forgotten about his solo career as he has released another compilation album titled N.O. Hits At All Vol. 7. Oliveri created this collection of personal tracks to surprise fans with 10 punk rock songs.
Nick Oliveri, the multi-instrumentalist legend, most recognized for his time in Kyuss and Queens of the Stone Age, is a well-respected songwriter known to have contributed to many other bands, artistic projects and albums.
N.O. Hits At All Vol. 7 kicks off with a grim heavy rock song titled “Bram Stalker.” Within the first seconds, fans are greeted by a rock and roll guitar riff. The rhythm of the song gets heavier as the drums and shouting vocals are introduced. This high-energy song is a perfect introductory track to welcome fans of Nick Oliveri to his 7th volume of his N.O. Hits At All series.
“I Am Your Sun” features Michelle Balderrama on guitar and vocals. This track gives a full glimpse into Oliveri’s exotic world of music and his genius composer mindset. Balderrama’s vocals alongside Oliveri’s electric piano keys give this song a late 1990s vibe that would have landed it in a comedic movie soundtrack. This track is an experimental sound and differs from Oliveri’s typical sounds; fans can experience a different sound experience first-hand through this song.
It is clear that Oliveri borrowed some inspiration from his previous and current band experiences when composing “Up And Down Under,” which sounds like a more energetic Stöner track, and “M E 262” that gives off some Queen of the Stone Age vibes. Oliveri gives fans the pleasure to experience new guitar sounds many fell in love with during his Queen of the Stone Age years within “M E 262.”
“Disease With No Control” channels some late 1970s garage rock band. Oliveri performs the same high energy and rage within this incredible punk rock song that hates on the COVID-19 pandemic experience everyone in the world could relate to and enjoy. Oliveri channels another great musical era within “I Want You She’s So Heavy” as he turns to the blues for some artistic inspiration. This track is an odd way to end this compilation album, but maybe it hints at a possibility for a volume eight.
Nick Oliveri is definitely a musical genius that has found a way to put together various compilations of his finest works. He has once again surprised fans with his musical talent in N.O. Hits At All Vol. 7. This collection of songs will have fans looking back through Oliveri’s musical career and revisiting some of his most outstanding sounds within this album, but of course, in new songs.
