Album brings ear-bleeding punk music
Virginia punk band Demons have released their album Privation, and it is filled with rich and heavy sounds that can cause people to sing along while listening. The vocals from Zach Gehring and Chris Matthews are good because both vocalists use their powerful voices to create insanity on each track. The guitar play from Gehring and Matthews lights the atmosphere with hard-hitting riffs, the bass guitar playing from Jon Anderson brings deep vibrating notes. The drum playing from Drew Orton shakes up the background with thunderous beats. Privation is a great album that shows why punk still exists in today’s music.
The thunderous track “Ravage” is a song that has Orton playing dynamic drum beats that give this tune a hard dose of powerful percussions. Orton plays a quick drum roll kicking the song off that turns into the signature punk music sound. Orton is playing on a basic musical structure that carries a tempo, and when Orton smacks his drum sticks on the drum heads and cymbals, elements of punk radiate through the constant musical craziness Orton and the rest of the band are playing. If fans want to hear epic drum playing, “Ravage” will have them wishing they can play the drums the way Orton does.
An absolute vein-jolting track is “Placeless,” which gives an insight into how gifted Gehring is as a vocalist. Other songs have Gehring singing his best, but this tune shows what Gehring can do as the lead vocalist of Demons. Other than shouting out the words in an authoritative tone, Gehring narrates some of the lyrics by just talking them out. This approach is enjoyable to hear because the way Gehring is talking brings out more of the lingering emotions in this composition. With a sharp kick of righteousness, Gehring is not afraid to show the music world what he can do as a vocalist on “Placeless.”
“Slow Burn” is a mind-blowing track where Gehring and Matthews play their hearts out on the guitars. Throughout the entire composition, each guitar note brings a surge of extra energy that can cause listeners to headbang to the righteous riffs. The work Gehring and Matthews put into the guitar playing adds more depth by providing the hard-hitting sound of punk music through thrashing guitar riffs. “Slow Burn” is a tune that sounds incredible on volume ten. Both Gehring and Matthews show what they are capable of as musicians and their guitar playing is electrifying.
“Full Stop” is a strong driving force and is a ridiculously good tune featuring Anderson playing heavy bass guitar notes. While listening, the vibrations from the bass guitar resonate through the speakers while the noise keeps the song together with bold rumbles. Also, Anderson does a great job of staying in tune with the rest of the band because the quick bass guitar riffs blend in well with the instrumentation. “Full Stop” is an amazing song, and Anderson does have his foot on the gas pedal while performing soul-jolting music.
The heart-pounding song “St. Luke” brings the record to a close featuring well-sung vocals from Gehring and Matthews. The chemistry is between both vocalists is amazing, which leads their voices to complement each other with a strong and authoritative sound. As Gehring dominantly shouts out the lyrics, Matthews is heard singing on a lower but strong pitch that contributes to the lingering emotions.
Demons know how to create music on Privation, and each track consists of promising punk music that will cause people to dance along while they are listening.
