My Bloody Valentine has taken to social media to tease that they will have an announcement on Wednesday, March 31. The post featured a 30-minute snippet of their 2013 track “Only Tomorrow” ahead of blurry visuals and “31 03.”
The caption included a link to the band’s website, prompting fans to include their email information in order to receive an alert on the date of the announcement.
The band has been hinting toward new releases over the past few years, but nothing has yet been released. Meanwhile, much of the band’s catalog has been pulled from streaming services, which has led some fans to think that their upcoming announcement could be related to their tracks being uploaded online.
The new video shared on Instagram had been the band’s first post in nine months, which had been a black square for Blackout Tuesday in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. Prior to that, the band had not posted since 2018.
The band’s Kevin Shields had given an interview in 2018 where he hinted that My Bloody Valentine would be recording music in 2019. He said they were hoping to release an EP, however many fans had expected that release would appear in June 2018. Also in that year, My Bloody Valentine had debuted a new song during their concert at Meltdown. That year had seen their first tour in five years.
Over 20 years had passed between My Bloody Valentine’s most recent two albums, 1991’s Loveless and 2013’s m b v. Only the band’s first two albums are available on streaming services.
