Ty Segall is perhaps one of the hardest working musicians of the past decade. Segall practically exudes rock music, since 2008 after starting his career he has been lent his creativity in too many bands to count, notable ones being Fuzz, Broken Bat, The CIA and many more. He has an extensive solo career, having over 10 albums, and is backed by several bands while performing live, such as The Muggers and The Freedom band. Segall has dedicated his career to his love of rock music in all its forms, seeking to master each iteration from punk to psychedelia, while innovating and building his own brand of rock. Without a doubt, Segall is a monumental figure in the San Francisco music scene and is showing no signs of stopping.

Segall began his career by playing with underground bands in Orange County and The Bay area, soon after pursuing solo work. Segall’s first self-titled album was released with the help of his friend John Dwyer of Thee Oh Sees. He then released a string of several LPs being Lemon, Melted, and Goodbye Bread. In 2012 he released his album Twins which was a kind of blending of glam rock with something more intense and punk. In 2013 he released Sleeper which showed a slower and more mellow side to his rock, and in 2014 he created Manipulator which saw him incorporating elements of psychedelia. In 2017 he released his second self titled album, Ty Segall which showed his full range of what he could do with rock and all it’s subgenres, bouncing back and forth between the spectrum. Recently, this past Spring he worked on a cover album, Segall Smeagol, based on Harry Nilsson’s Nilsson Schmilsson.

Without a doubt this is not a show you want to miss, It’s rare we get an artist with so much creative energy, let alone see them live.

MacGregor Salmon: Transfer student from Texas A&M to Loyola University Chicago, I am a Film and Digital Media major. Though my primary study is in film, I love all things creative and want to immerse myself in all kinds of mediums. Sharing and discovering music with others has always been an important part of my relationships with others. I grew up on funk, and the first song I can remember hearing is Sir Duke by Stevie Wonder. I still have much love for funk, but I also lean towards alternative, jazz, and anything experimental as I love to hear how new artists are changing the music scene. I find myself on Soundcloud often, looking for creative new works by independent artists. I also consider myself to be a writer, I love to write creative short stories, but I also want to use my skills as a writer to further my appreciation and understanding of music, and the artists behind their work.
