The beautiful “Paint You with My Love” is surprisingly catchy, as Manson sings his heart out in pure musical form. Manson’s vocals are rich in harmony, as he croons out the lyrics at the beginning and middle of the song before his vocal tone changes to a lovely, darker tone that draws in more emotion. To boot, the piano and guitar playing in the background will keep listeners on edge because there is an even balance of soft and loud playing. “Paint You With My Love” is a well sung tune that’ll make listeners sing along.
The driving “Infinite Darkness” shows who Manson is as a performer. His vocals are loud and a tad intimidating, and at the beginning of the song, Manson’s low, raspy voice welcomes listeners to his dark and crazy world. What’s enjoyable about this tune is how Manson’s shouting contributes to the insanity of the piece, and in some ways, the shouting alerts listeners to what is in store for them in Manson’s world. Manson has gotten older, but his intimidating vocals have not changed. “Infinite Darkness” is an epic composition.
Melodic “Half-Way & One Step Forward” is a tune that has rich lyrics. The way Manson sings in agony shows how deep his words cut. The lyrics “Half-way and one step forward/ past the point of no return (I don’t wanna know)” give insights on life’s struggles and how, for some people, there isn’t a way out of the miserable darkness. In some ways, people are lost in the darkness and don’t even want to know if there’s an end in sight because the dark world has taken over their minds. “Half-Way & One Step Forward” may have great instrumentation, but the lyrics rule the whole track.
Mind-blowing “We Are Chaos” is a deep, moving piece that displays a softer side of Manson. The instrumentation on the song steals the show, but Manson’s vocals light up the track’s atmosphere with a sinister sound of harmony and authority. Manson’s voice alone brings the power of high-strung emotion that lets listeners know his views on society’s shortcomings. Manson has never been afraid to speak his mind through music, and “We Are Chaos” is one of the most honest pieces on the record.
The dreary “Solve Coagula” is one of the most artistic compositions on We Are Chaos, and its instrumentation gives an insight of how serious this tune is. The guitar playing blazes the tune with righteous riffs that will shake the bones of listeners, the bass guitar playing rumbles in satisfaction and the keyboard playing in the chorus contributes to the lingering gloominess. Manson’s vocals are superior here, as he sings on a lower vocal range with a darker tone. “Solve Coagula” is a creative composition by Manson, and the instrumentation owns this piece.
Manson does a good job of showing what art looks like through music and it takes a creative mind to write music that can impact the lives of people. Manson has never failed to deliver good music and We Are Chaos is an album that will show the world that Manson has his foot on the gas pedal.
