Circa Survive @ Concord Music Hall (1/16)

The music of Circa Survive manages to cover a large range of the capabilities of rock, bouncing between spectrums of psychedelic, hardcore, and alternative rock. The band was started by Anthony Green, a prolific singer and songwriter with a booming tenor voice, who has been a part of several bands and maintains a solo career as well. Circa Survive takes inspiration from all sorts of artistic mediums, including film and literature, notably House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Circa Survive quickly gained attention in the alternative scene as their talent could not be denied.

Circa Survive began when Anthony Green started doing sessions with his friend Colin Frangicetto, from their recruiting more members and releasing their EP The Inuit Sessions in 2005. About a month later, they released their debut album, Juturna which features an experimental and melancholy rock style that gained them a massive following. Their next album On Letting Go was released in 2007, which built upon the band’s strengths and what gave  Juturna such a great sound. Their next album Blue Sky Noise was released in 2010 and started a path of stylistic change for the band. Their most recent album is The Amulet which was released in 2017.

Circa Survive is coming to Chicago at the beginning of next year to provide you with a range of rock you won’t soon forget!

MacGregor Salmon: Transfer student from Texas A&M to Loyola University Chicago, I am a Film and Digital Media major. Though my primary study is in film, I love all things creative and want to immerse myself in all kinds of mediums. Sharing and discovering music with others has always been an important part of my relationships with others. I grew up on funk, and the first song I can remember hearing is Sir Duke by Stevie Wonder. I still have much love for funk, but I also lean towards alternative, jazz, and anything experimental as I love to hear how new artists are changing the music scene. I find myself on Soundcloud often, looking for creative new works by independent artists. I also consider myself to be a writer, I love to write creative short stories, but I also want to use my skills as a writer to further my appreciation and understanding of music, and the artists behind their work.
