The Growlers are an iconic American band originally from Southern California which emerged in the early 2000s and is currently based in Costa Mesa, California. Today, the band’s lineup is composed of lead singer Brooks Nielsen, lead guitarist Matt Taylor, and keyboardist & guitarist Kyle Straka. The Growlers first got its start from its humble beginnings as a high school band formed spontaneously after Brooks Nielsen and Matt Taylor were presented with the random opportunity to perform at a local house party. Six early songs, seven albums, five EPs, and numerous singles later, The Growlers have cemented themselves as a boundary-pushing and cutting-edge rock band combining elements of surf rock, psychedelic rock, and garage rock to form their own musical style. Their dedication to music and all types of music is also apparent in their annual hosting of the Beach Goth festival since 2012, a festival which has seen the likes of icons like Gucci Mane, Mac DeMarco, and Grimes.
In the past, The Growlers have been iconic touring partners, having toured with The Black Keys, Julian Casablancas, and more. This year, however, The Growlers will be performing at the Bay Area’s The Warfield on December 4th. Although the band has encountered many obstacles this year after the temporary departure of Matt Taylor and multiple sexual misconduct allegations, the band has proved ready to accept their offenses but also change and learn from these experiences. Be sure to catch The Growlers at The Warfield on December 4th and continue to follow MXDWN for all your music updates.
