Tribulation have announced a new album, titled Where the Gloom Becomes Sound, for release in January, 2021. The band has not yet announced any exact date, or any singles for the forthcoming album. The album will be released via Metal Blade Records in North America, and Century Media Records throughout the rest of the world.
The album was engineered and produced with Jamie Elton, the group recording in Stockholm, Sweden. Tom Dalgety of Pixies, Ghost and Opeth helped to produce, with Magnus Lindberg mastering the album. The album’s artwork features a statue by Fernand Khnopff.
“The album is a sombre one, filled with ghastly shadows and elemental magic – a mythological bestarium vocabulum ranging from the desert sands to the midnight sun, from our murky prehistorical past to our potentially luminous futures,” the band said in a press statement. “Figuratively, literally and musically. We worked together with producer Jamie Elton to create something wild and imaginative, something that would take the listener on a nightly adventure along with Fernand Khnopff’s enigmatic sibyl on the cover and with all the gods and goddesses, nymphs and demons that we conjured up during the recording. As an icing on an already frosted cake we had the help of Tom Dalgety for the finishing touches.”
Tribulation formed in Sweden in 2005, the band releasing their debut album, The Horror, in 2009. Where the Gloom Becomes Sound will be the band’s sixth studio release, and follows 2018’s Down Below. 2019 saw the band releasing their first live album, Alive & Dead at Södra Teatern. The group incorporates the occult and supernatural mythology into much of their music’s themes.
